1/5/12
Dear Parents, Carers and Friends,
Welcome to the May newsletter, full of very important dates and arrangements so please keep it somewhere safe.
Congratulations!
To Jacob Stafford and Jasmine Miller who represented their school
and area in the cross country competition held recently. We are awaiting the final results but know that Jacob came 8th in the boys' race, how fantastic!!
Also a huge well done to Georgie Sykes. Georgie wrote to the Queen and received a personal reply. Also to Sam O'Rourke, who along with his class entered a portrait drawing competition and gained a Highly Commended. Hopefully both children will be in the Western Gazette this week and all of the children on the website.
Some dates for the diary
Tuesday 1st May - A drop in for coffee with Father James, 3pm in the library. Please come along if you can.
Wednesday 2nd May
The Royal visit. All children will see Her Majesty the Queen on her Jubilee tour. Some will be seeing her get off the train, some will be seeing her at Ninesprings and the rest will be lining the streets of Yeovil, waving flags. All of the children will then return to school and be given a piece of homemade flapjack and a hot chocolate. It will be a lovely day for everyone, of that I am sure.
Friday 4th May - All Year 6 pupils will be going to the Steam Rally during school time. Please ensure that your child comes to school in trousers/jeans but with their school sweatshirt on top. They will also need boots, strong shoes or Wellingtons and a waterproof coat. Children who have a cooked lunch will need a packed lunch and plenty to drink. Children in receipt of FSM will have a lunch provided. They can bring up to £5 to spend if you would like them to.
Monday May 7th - This is a Bank holiday. School will be closed.
Monday May 14th - This is the first day of SAT's. Please ensure your child is in school every day. It is a hard week for them and they need to have plenty of sleep. Mrs Lancey has already sent out arrangements but there is breakfast provided for them every morning from 8.30am in the hall. On Friday there may even be a bacon sandwich!!
Tuesday May 22nd - The Olympic torch will be in Yeovil at 7.39am. Some staff will be watching. We will then return to school for a sausage sandwich and a cup of hot chocolate for everyone. Please make the most of this wonderful opportunity by getting up early and watching.
Thursday 24th May - Year 5 pupils will be taking part in an architectural workshop. Teams of children will be going to Birchfield for a high fives and football tournament. A separate letter will follow to those involved.
Some children who work with Fiveways may be going to the beach. Again a separate letter to those involved will follow.
Monday 28th May - Year 2 pupils from Pen Mill and Reckleford along with our Year 3 pupils will be joining together for a Jubilee picnic. Their parents are very welcome to join them. They will be at our school at 1.45pm in their best crowns and tiaras. Please dress your year 3 pupil in red, white and blue for the occasion.
Tuesday 29th May - The choir will be going to Sunningdale Lodge.
Wednesday 30th May - We have managed to get free tickets for the whole school to go to the Bath and West show. We will be leaving school at 9.15am and returning at 5pm. Please take notice of the late return. We are taking all of the children on this wonderful educational trip. This is a trouser/jeans day but with a school sweatshirt on top please, strong shoes or Wellington boots, and a waterproof coat. All children will need a packed lunch, plenty to drink and some money to spend. Please put all money in a purse with their name on. Children in receipt of FSM will have a lunch provided. If there are any parents with CRB clearance who would like to come with us please inform the office.
Thursday 31st May - 20 of our children will be going to Fiveways for a Jubilee party in school time. Mr Jones will be taking them.
Friday 1st June - We will be holding our own Jubilee celebrations today. Please send your child to school in fancy dress/red, white and blue costume. In the morning we will be making and flying kites, crowning the Queen and preparing for our playground party which will be at 12noon. Every class will have made their own food for this day so a lunch is not required. You are very welcome to join us for lunch if you would like to between 12 and 1pm. There is a form attached to this letter, please complete the details as it will help us with catering. On offer is homemade Coronation chicken, jacket potato and salad, with Jubilee Mess for dessert. Raymond Blanc, Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsey (otherwise known as Dawn Stringer, Tammy Court and Tracey Bowring) are in charge of catering and we are very grateful to them.
At 2pm we will be liaising with Pen Mill and taking part in a mass release of red, white and blue balloons, hopefully with no child attached to them.
We all collapse in a heap and break up for a well deserved holiday.
We return to school on Tuesday 12th June.
A few reminders
Can I ask that all parents who have not yet secured a place for their Year 6 pupil at their new secondary school yet, do so at the earliest opportunity? Mrs Redman in our school office can advise you if you need help. Also if you know of anyone who has yet to decide on a place for their Year 2 pupils, please encourage them to come and look at us. This is a lovely school with lots and lots of wonderful things going on. They are lucky children indeed.
Also we have a lot of non payments for London and the Kilve trip. If you haven't paid the full amount for the London trip by 18th May and for Kilve by 30th June your child may lose their place. We have a waiting list of children who are very keen to fill those places. Please see the office staff if you are unsure as to what you owe.
And last but not least we are having an increased number of parents ringing into the school office at 3.20pm with a change of plans for collecting children. We cannot guarantee that the office staff can get the message to your child by 3.30, so they will not know the new plan and so are therefore at risk. Please help us help your children by discussing what is happening at the end of the day and do everything you can not to change those plans. It is also worth reminding them that in the eventuality of you not being there at the end of the day, they always return to the school building. We have had a couple of cases just lately of children walking home by themselves because parents have been late. They are then reported to us as missing which is very scary.
We are having a lot of fun in here as usual but particularly in the run up to the Jubilee, we hope you are too. You are very welcome to come into school and spend as much time with us as you would like to.
Happy Jubilee everyone.
